Join the Green Party by July 31st to vote for Rachel as deputy

hope can win

I'm Rachel, and I’m standing for Deputy Leader of the Green Party of England and Wales. With leadership experience spanning film, arts, and local government, I'll empower & support new Green leaders from all backgrounds, help us find funds together and make sure we cut through in media like never before.

IN THE MEDIA

As co-leader of a district council, I've confronted the housing crisis, crumbling public services, water privatisation, scapegoating of immigrants, and Reform's lies.

With support, we can all speak truth to power and bring hope to our communities.

Media training - broadcast and social - must become a party-wide priority. We have the policies, principles, and proven delivery in councils and Parliament. It’s time to share our vision and our successes.

I'll help equip local parties with the skills, confidence, and fundraising to make it happen.

ABOUT me

I co-lead Wealden District Council in Sussex, one of 15 Green-led councils in the UK.

Elected as Wealden's third Green councillor in 2021, I helped the team win 11 seats in 2023 and now co-lead the Council with cabinet roles in Housing & Benefits, then Community, Culture and Communications. Our council's mission to make Wealden greener, fairer and kinder is delivering at pace through new initiatives in affordable housing, nature restoration and community wellbeing. I regularly appear on BBC Politics South East TV and local radio.

Born in the West Midlands after my parents left Hull, I studied at Oxford University and the African Gender Institute in Cape Town. I've lived in Brighton, working as a carer, and then London, where I founded international women's film festival Birds Eye View (now evolved into Reclaim the Frame). This led to recognition as one of 50 'Women to Watch' by Arts Council England and a Woman of the Future Award nomination for Media. I later directed a community arts space in Hackney and became Executive Director for Sam Lee's live music platform, the Nest Collective.

I've been politically active since childhood—my first protest was against South African apartheid aged 8, around the same time I joined Greenpeace. Studying gender and development with women from 9 African countries shifted my focus from international development to equality for women in Britain. Birds Eye View helped spotlight the radical inequality in film and spearheaded more initiatives to redress the balance. It was after knocking on doors trying to stop Brexit happening that I realised I needed to step forward into politics, and it was around XR that I knew where my political home would be.

Throughout my life, I've championed marginalised voices and worked for social justice—for women, disabled people (informed by my lived experience of disability), and nature - through co-founding Friends of the River Medway and volunteering as an Ashdown Forest conservator.

I’m backing Rachel Millward to be the next Deputy Leader of the Green Party.

Why? Not only is she a champion for people and planet, but someone who’s fighting against the deep inequality that’s hitting rural communities just as hard as urban ones.

This our moment to be bold and take the fight to Reform. Rachel will lift up new Green voices, bring hope to both rural and urban communities, and drive our movement forward.

Two-party politics are crumbling. This is our opportunity to cut through. I’m backing Rachel to help make that happen - and I hope you’ll join me in getting involved.
